Dear Odyssey and Mosaic Music Parents,
I feel so very blessed to be your child's music teacher at Commodore Options School and happy to begin my second year at Commodore. As many of you know, I made the decision last spring to leave my part-time position at Sakai in order to teach the entire program for both Mosaic and Odyssey. What a joy it has been teaching every grade level.
The first month of school has been extraordinary and I look forward to the months ahead. I want to invite you to our Veteran’s Day Assembly on Thursday, November 10th at 9:30am in the Commodore Gym. Our younger music students (Mosaic K-5 and Odyssey 1-4) will once again sing an Armed Forces Medley tribute and the Bainbridge High School Band will perform patriotic songs. Our principal Dave Shockley is lining up a guest speaker and our Odyssey 7/8 marimba group will perform as you enter and exit the assembly.
As performance opportunities arise, I will email you with dates, times and detailed information. If you see me out and about in the community, please stop me and say hello. This summer I was asked how many students I have taught throughout my career. The answer is approximately 10,000. Wow-that’s about half the size of Bainbridge Island!
This year begins my 8th year working in the Bainbridge Island School District and my 8th year living on Bainbridge. My family and I moved to Bainbridge in August of 2007 from Charleston, South Carolina. Even though it was quite a change from the hot and humid south, we love living in the Northwest. I have been fortunate to teach all areas of music during my career-chorus, band, elementary and middle school general music. My background is as a percussionist and music educator. I am the timpanist for the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra and love performing with theses talented musicians. I would love to see you and your child at a BSO concert!
I look forward to our year ahead! Please do not hesitate to contact me.
