Mini-Classes

October 5, 2016

Dear 7/8 Parents,

I know what you’re thinking… hey, isn’t it time for me to volunteer to teach a mini-class?  Why yes, it is!  Take that special talent, knowledge or activity and share it with our kids.  Or perhaps you would like to pair up with other parent(s) or a student?  This is a wonderful way to connect with the community for your volunteer hours.  Read on for details and schedule.

A Few Details:

Mini-class is a good occasion for students to learn by doing.  Prior years covered anything from cooking in an ethnic tradition, knitting, games of chance and cricket to graphic design, yoga and improv.  Have an idea for holiday crafts, creative writing, book club…music?  Or maybe you have an idea that more specifically integrates with curriculum.  For example, we would love, LOVE to see “Bainbridge Island History” related mini-classes made available.  Give it some thought.

Liz's kitchen is available if you want to do cooking classes.  The kids love to cook!  Laptops are available if you would like to use those.  Or bring your own props or supplies.  Reimbursement can be available for special supply needs.

The Schedule:

Session 1:     Nov.4, 18. Dec. 2,9,16 and Jan. 6

Session 2:    Jan. 13,20,27, Feb. 3,10,17

Session 3:    March 3,10, 17,24,31 and April 14

Session 4:    April 21,28, May 5,12, 19, 26

Note: Each session is six weeks, but mini-class duration is flexible.  So a mini-class could be 6-7 kids for 3 Friday afternoons (of about 2 hours) or could be 12-13 kids for as long as 6 weeks.  Classes can be smaller or larger, shorter or longer - whatever fits for you!

Next Step:

Reply to me or give a call.  Let me know when and what you might teach and we can go from there.  All questions, rough ideas and ballpark estimates welcome!  Thank you, in advance, to our enthusiastic and creative parents!  Let’s hear your ideas!
