Hello Odyssey parents,
I know you’ll be hearing all about the Fort Flagler retreat tonight, but I won’t be there so I wanted to let you know over email about one special part of our time together: the talent show! It will once again take place after lunch on Saturday as the final activity of the weekend.
All students are welcome to participate, and we’ve had a fantastic variety of acts in the past including instrumental performances (from chopsticks to Chopin), jokes, dance routines, magic tricks, skits, and more. It’s a lot of fun to see the kids’ talent, creativity, and humor on stage!
Start talking to your kids now to get them thinking about whether they would like to perform individually or with a group. They may want to get together with friends ahead of time to practice together. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Fort Flagler Dining Hall where they can sign up when they arrive. They will be assigned a time for a required run-through of their act on Saturday morning so they can get comfortable on the stage and make sure they have all their props, etc.
I will be bringing a professional stage keyboard with weighted keys and pedal, as well as a sturdy music stand for use by students. **If your child needs a song played over the sound system, please let me know at least a day before we head up to Flagler so I can download it onto my laptop – I prefer not to juggle everybody’s devices. Oh – and one last guideline: We do ask that students participate in no more than one individual act and one group act, so that we will have time for everyone.
Finally, I am looking for 2-3 parent helpers - I will need at least one person to help me wrangle kids & props during the practice on Saturday morning, and and 1-2 additional people to stay backstage and do set changes during the talent show itself. I think you can sign up for those jobs at the parent meeting tonight, or you can email directly to let me know you’re up for it.
Looking forward to spending time with you all next weekend!
