Odyssey Parent Meeting Thurs., Sept. 8th 6:46pm

Dear Parents,

 

 

Welcome to the 2016-17 Odyssey school year!

 

We are happy to announce our first parent meeting of the school year next Thursday evening, Sept. 8th at 6:45pm. Parent meetings are an Odyssey tradition and a way for us to build community, create connections, celebrate our unique school, learn about our school community needs and make important decisions. 

 

You are all also invited to come to the PTO (OPTO) meeting just beforehand from 6pm to 6:45pm. This meeting is optional but please come if you are interested. The meeting will be in Liz Finin’s classroom and there will be conversations about the OPTO budget and planning the OPTO calendar and events.

 

Take a look at our agenda for the 1-8 portion of the meeting which will start in Liz Finin’s classroom at 6:45pm. (Childcare will be provided)

DECISIONS - Jen

 

We are peas in a pod - What pod(s) do you want to contribute your time and enthusiasm to this school year? Here are some of the pods to think about and then decide where to put your attention and energy:

 

Fundraising: Focusing on a variety of ways to raise money for the school and to better support the teachers in creating dynamic and up to date learning environments for all students. Fundraising includes auction, possible pledge drive, chinook book, grants etc. 

Garden: Maintaining and expanding the garden to be a meaningful, accessible, and year round outdoor classroom

Odyssey 2.0: Where are we now and where are we going? This group will focus on figuring out how to continue to evolve and to integrate new ideas, visions and needs going forward. 

Mini Classes/Integrated Learning Blocks: Parents interested in teaching a small group of students on Fridays for 3 to 4 week mini sessions on topics that support, deepen and enhance learning in the classroom. Parents who are interested in teaching or coordinating mini classes are all welcome

 

 

Odyssey Community Building: Develop family-to-family and cluster-to-cluster mentorship opportunities, morale building, family fun activities and events to bring the community closer together.  (May also include volunteer training, parent guide e-books/reference materials, etc.) 

 

External Outreach and District Liaison:  Work passionately to represent Odyssey's interests in the wider Bainbridge Island community, and as a liaison to other schools, the school district, and school board.  Work positively for the political, financial, and physical space interests and future of the program.

 

 

TRANSITION - The 1-6 parents will move to Barry’s classroom for a presentation on the curriculum and announcements about Ft. Flagler. The 7/8 parents will stay in Liz’s room for curriculum information and more announcements.
